James Fazio of Atascadero and his wife, Katherine welcomed their third baby, Micah James who was born on a special day — News Year’s Day.
“We are delighted to introduce our first newborn of 2019 here at Twin Cities Community Hospital. Katherine and James welcomed their baby boy at 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2019, and are happy to share this memorable moment with the community,” said Krista Deans, spokesperson for Twin Cities Community Hospital.
When asked how it felt to have a New Years baby, James Fazio said, “It was awesome.”
Since the due date was the Jan. 2 Fazio said, “The first would be such a perfect birthday because all of your friends and family would be staying up until it’s time for your birthday. So It’s actually a really good day.”
Micah weighed 8 pounds and 5 ounces and measured 20-inches tall and is the Fazio’s third son. Micha joined Kilian, 4, and Timothy, 2.
Both older brothers were excited to see their new brother and came the next day to Micah. They are very excited and unsure why he is so small, James said.
While holding the little baby, Kilian said, “Dad, when is Micah going to be walking? Why can’t he walk yet, I want to play with him.”
It was a relatively quick birth, according to James.
“Katherine did great her water broke at 10:30 a.m. on New Year’s Eve and she gave birth to Micah at 1:30 a.m. It was only three hours,” said Fazio. Labor was “super quick.”
Micah came into the world facing up and since he was a big baby the last push was a bit harder, but everything “went awesome,” James shared.
Katherine chose the name Micah from the Bible and the middle was after her husband, James. She had originally wanted to name the baby, James, but Fazio said with a laugh, “I didn’t want to have a Jr.”
The Fazios spend time overseas working on social issues and volunteering. James is also a filmmaker, who recently had his film “Time Well Spent” screened at the San Luis Obispo International Film Fest in March 2018.
James grew up in Atascadero and Katherine is from Germany. The couple met in Peru and were in town visiting James’ side of the family for the holidays. Katherine’s mother flew in from Peru and was there for the birth of the baby. Everyone was able to be together and see the new bundle of joy.
James had some words of wisdom for his new son.
“That he finds his own path, and who he is and not let other people just influence him but be his own person,” James said. “Follow his heart, let God tell him what to do, that he writes his own path.”
