North County Theatre Works presents “Anything Goes”

TEMPLETON — Music, dance, laughs and the age-old tale of boy meets girl will be the theme of “Anything Goes” on stage at the Templeton Performing Arts Center, running from June 29 to July 6.

The classic musical comedy is a hilarious shipboard romp featuring Cole Porter’s familiar hits: “It’s De-lovely,” “Blow,” “All Through the Night,” “Anything Goes,” “Friendship” and “You’re the Top.” When the S.S. American heads out to sea, etiquette and convention head out the portholes, as two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love, proving that sometimes, “Anything Goes!”

“I wanted to produce something light and fun this summer,” said Director Catherine Kingsbury, “and something that provides an opportunity for a wide range of ages and talents.”

Kingsbury has directed the show twice before. Her cast presented “An Evening with Cole Porter” at Studios on the Park last Wednesday, singing songs from the show and from the Cole Porter Songbook.

Kingsbury said her cast members are enjoying the musical score of “Anything Goes” and have been researching the nuances of each song they will perform.

Cast and crew members are from San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, Paso Robles, Atascadero and Templeton. Lauren Josephs is both musical director and starring as Reno Sweeney. Choreographer is Templeton High School’s Koby Wescom. Some cast members are long-time Central Coast Performers: Sholly Von Stein will be playing the part of Evangeline Harcourt and Ed Galena will play Elisha Whitney.

Tara Brinkman will play Hope Harcourt and Jordan Peralta will be performing as Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.

Five members of the van den Eikhof family are in the playbill: Hannah van den Eikhof as Angel Purity, Jeff van den Eikhof as Capt. Reginald Strong, and Katherine, Vicki and Frances van den Eikhof in the Ensemble.

Three cast members are attending college and majoring in theater: Joe Pandosh (Moonface Martin), Isabella Marziello (Ensemble) and Ethan LaCaro (Billy Crocker).

Several members worked with Kinsbury on “In the Heights”: Lauren Josephs, Ethan LaCaro,

Isabella Marziello, Jordan Peralta, Jared Robinson (Ensemble), Brianna Josephs (Erma Latour), Carson Ogburn (Angel Chastity), Joe Pandosh, Branden Fetzer (Sound Technician).

“‘Anything Goes’ is always a crowd pleaser,” Kingsbury said. “Older audience members will enjoy the 1930s references, younger audience members will enjoy the slapstick comedy and everyone will enjoy the vocals and dance numbers.”

The musical will be performed at the Templeton Performing Arts Center on 1200 Main on Friday, June 29, Saturday, June 30 and Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7 at 7 p.m. Matinee performances will be Sunday, July 1 and Sunday, July 8 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 for general admission, and may be purchased online at brownpapertickets.com (search “Anything Goes”). Tickets may also be purchased at the door. The box office will open one hour before showtime.
