KING CITY — King City Troop 1 is celebrating 100 years in existence on Saturday and is looking for any past Troop 1 members.
Troop 1 was formed in 1914, four years after the Boy Scouts of America was founded. F.M. “Pop” Williams was the spirit behind the movement and the first scoutmaster. Most boys 12 years old and older wanted to join the troop and these members fanned out to Paso Robles, Atascadero, Soledad, Gonzales, Pacific Grove and other towns.
“The troop held track meets, baseball games, and even put on a circus,” said Denise Zanetta, Boy Scout Troop 1 mother. For the complete article see the 07-30-2014 issue.
