Police requested an expansion to the cityís original camping ordinance to make it more enforceable after receiving an overwhelming amount of complaints from the public about homeless people camping illegally, littering, causing fights and panhandling aggressively.
The expanded ordinance was rolled out at the same time that the city approved the El Camino Homeless Organizationís shelter as the official homeless shelter of the city, giving people an alternative to sleeping on the streets, Haley said.
