All Comers track and field meets begin with a bang

ATASCADERO — Records were broken at the 16th annual Atascadero Greyhound Foundation All Comers Track and Field meet on Wednesday when 183 participants of all ages and levels of performance flooded Atascadero High School’s Memorial Stadium for opening night.

Rising to the overwhelming occasion was an army of volunteers all over the track and field, handling crowds at six stations of events.

New and familiar faces graced the track, pits, and runways of the track and field that the Atascadero Greyhound Foundation helped build when it was started 20 years ago.

High school and college level talent took to the events for conditioning and training — among them was Colorado University sophomore Abrianna Torres, the SLO Town Track Club, Central Coast Elite, the Central California Coast Pole Vault Association, and members of the Pioneer Valley Panthers’ track and field team.

Twenty-one year old Torres is a San Luis Obispo native and a heptathlon athlete with the Buffaloes, and therefore is well-trained in many of the events at the All Comers meet, and took advantage of the USA Track and Field sanctioned meet here in her backyard while being home for the summer.

As a high school student in 2010, Torres set the All Comers record in the high jump (5-4), which still stands.
