ATASCADERO — The Paloma Creek Park Horseshoe Spring League champions were crowned on Tuesday when the leading team of Izzy Wingate and Tim Sobey held onto their two-game lead to finish ahead of second-place Jose Valladares and Chris Horejsi.

Wingate and Sobey entered the final day with a 17-7 record, leading Valladares and Horejsi (15-9). Valladares chased Wingate and Sobey without Horejsi, who was absent the final four games.

Each game was made up of 40 throws, split 20 each between two teammates, but Vallardes would throw from both sides, for 40 each game on his own.The win brought the two teams within a single point, with Wingate and Sobey still holding onto the advantage — 19-8 to Vallardes’ 18-9. Heading into the final game of the evening, Vallardes needed to win, and he needed Wingate and Sobey to lose — to the last-place team of league coordinator Dave Carreiro and his wife Jan.
