Della Lorraine Parrott was born in Gleichen, Alberta, Canada in 1919, and died April 18, 2014. She married William W. Parrott in 1946 and was a resident of San Luis Obispo County since the early 1950’s.
An adventurous soul, she and Bill ranched out of Santa Margarita in the early 1950’s. She was Post Mistress and telephone operator there. When Bill worked the Alaska Pipeline, she was a crossing guard in Fairbanks.
A wonderful wife and cook, she won many cooking contests. She had tremendous energy and won commendations for work with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and the Food Bank, and was recognized by the American Association of Blood Banks for donating over 10 gallons of blood. She was active in the Santa Margarita Seniors and took elderly friends and neighbors on their errands. Her husband Bill was a POW from Wake Island, and they were active in the “Workers of Wake” as well as VFW, Elks, Lions and many other organizations.
They traveled extensively in the motor home through Canada and the U.S. and visited overseas.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly. She received loving care at Mission View Health Center in San Luis Obispo, and the family thanks them very much. For the complete article see the 04-30-2014 issue.
