Firehouse 5K stays tough

ATASCADERO — On the corner of Traffic Way and Lewis Avenue, the sound of the national anthem filled the overcast morning air and a gigantic American flag hung high from the ladder of truck T-7545 to mark the start of “SLO County’s toughest 5K,” the third annual Firehouse 5K Run and Health Fair, at Atascadero Fire Station No. 1 on Saturday.

“We are looking forward to having a great family-fun event,” Atascadero Fire Department Capt. Bill White said. “We have generations here of fathers, mothers, sons and daughters running. With the health fair, it is a great time to get everybody out here to get energized and get ready for summer, and get in shape.”
