ATASCADERO — Once again the City of Atascadero, in cooperation with a number of service clubs, businesses and individuals, will stage the popular “Cycle de Mayo” at the Atascadero Lake Park and Zoo on Sunday, May 4.
Atascadero Kiwanis Club members will provide an authentic Mexican food lunch from noon to 2 p.m.
The event, set to run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature a number of booths, a bicycle safety check and safe cycling drills for kids, and a family bike parade around the lake. Bring a bicycle in and have it checked out to ensure that it is in safe operating condition, and polish those biking skills just in time for summer. The bike check booth and safe cycling drills will operate from 10 to 11 a.m., when the parade starts, and there will be drawings and watermelon after the parade.
A mariachi band will be playing through much of the day and piñatas filled with candy treats will be part of the festivities.
Sponsors include Southern California Gas Company, A&W Rootbeer of Atascadero, Paso Bamboo Farm and Nursery, Rideshare, Waste Management, Atascadero Kiwanis Club and Staples.
Additional sponsors include Mayor Tom O’Malley, Councilman Brian Sturtevant, Councilwoman Heather Moreno, Supervisor Debbie Arnold, Paso Robles Councilman Steve Martin, Latino Outreach Council, SLO Bike Club, Rideshare, La Rosa’s Automotive and El Compadre Restaurant.
Of the event, Mayor O’Malley and Kiwanis President Albert Almodova said they want young families to “have another fun day together in Atascadero while preparing for safe bike riding this summer.”For the complete article see the 04-23-2014 issue.
