Atascadero High School senior Kaylee Ryan took home three awards at the recent Arizona National Livestock Show, including the top award for hog showmanship.
“It’s a big show to win and I’m stoked that I did,” Ryan said. “It’s a big accomplishment.”
Ryan says she and her family left for Phoenix on Christmas day for the show, which started on Dec. 26, and stayed through Dec. 31. In addition to winning the top showmanship award with her hog Mr. Pickles, Ryan also showed a market class hog, earning her the reserve grand champion award.
Ryan also competed against the top sheep, cattle and goat showmanship award winners in a final round robin competition and took home the second place award, trailing the first place winner by just three points on a 120-point scale.
“I was a little discouraged by that,” she said. “I’m a competitive person at heart and three points was the difference between second place and winning.”
