ATASCADERO — Atascadero city fire department received news that it will receive more than $1 million dollars from the estate of a longtime supporter of the department.

Bertha Shultz, a long-time resident of Atascadero, had a special connection to the members of the AFD and, according to the press release, felt that her trust could do a great deal for the community she lived in and loved — especially when it came to supporting the paramedic service the local fire department provides to the community.

Since 1997, Mrs. Shultz had quietly donated over $30,000 to the fire department which went toward the purchases of much-needed medical equipment and funding for other vital projects. According to the press release, this “special friend to the fire department” insisted that her contributions remain anonymous.
