George “Harvey” York, of Atascadero, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at his home. He was born to George Earl and Calla Perna (Ransier) York in 1927 in Raisin City, Calif., the fifth of 10 children.
Harvey was a veteran of World War II, who served in the U.S. Army Air Force in Africa and parts of Asia, including India, from 1943 to 1946.
He married the love of his life, Virginia, in 1944.
Harvey was a carpenter and a carpenter foreman. He worked for the California State Office of the State Architect from 1958 to 1987, when he retired as acting District Supervisor for Area I.
His integrity and morals were above reproach and his compassion and concern for other people was a joy to watch over the years and a wonderful example for his four sons. Harvey enjoyed having his extended family around him and being the family caregiver. He was always helping someone in the family. He took care of his beloved wife, Virginia, in her later years.
Harvey is survived by his children Doug of Marysville, Calif.; Roger (Mary) of San Luis Obispo; Gary (Dottie) of Santa Margarita and Ron (Debbie) of Atascadero, eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and his adopted daughter, “Gina”.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; and granddaughter, Jennifer.
Harvey’s funeral will be held at 11 am, Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Wheeler-Smith Mortuary Chapel, 2890 S. Higuera, San Luis Obispo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Harvey’s memory to the charity of your choice.
