ATASCADERO — The dwindling Atascadero Lake will be dredged to remove organic materials that are contributing to the water’s woes.
The Atascadero City Council voted 5-0 in favor of paying $70,000 from the general fund to dredge the lake, with a special thanks to Councilwoman Roberta Fonzi for taking the lead on obtaining necessary permits for the job.
A regional drought has reduced the water in the lake so that the deepest areas are no more than four-five feet, more than eight feet lower than the lake is at its fullest. That, along with the build-up of organic material at the lake bottom is contributing to severely degraded water quality resulting in low oxygen levels, say city staff.For the complete article see the 10-25-2013 issue.
