Atascadero turns 100

Posted: Tuesday, Oct 22nd, 2013

Zoey, 4, and Noah, 2, Jimenez of Atascadero delight in the floats passing by during the 40th Annual Colony Days parade at the community’s Centennial Celebration.

Colony Days begins before dawn with Tent City staff sleeping in their makeshift historical community representing Atascadero’s early days. Just a little later, the Lions are up and transporting supplies to its annual 7 a.m. pancake breakfast.

Lions volunteers described “seeing our breath” when they arrived before dawn. They were up at 4 a.m. and on site by 5 a.m. to set up the breakfast for which chilled vendor crews and other visitors were grateful.

“The Lions have been doing this since for many years,” said Lions Chair Bruce Knuckles who serves with fellow chairs, Steve Ritter and Larry Bryant. “It’s good to be a part of Colony Days.”
