ATASCADERO — Three-month-old red panda twins born at the Charles Paddock Zoo in June will be publicly celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 21. Their debut will be part of a day-long celebration in conjunction with International Red Panda Day.
Though the pandas were born in June, hot summer temperatures delayed their introduction to zoo-goers. Because of the high risk of mortality in captive-born cubs, zoo staff has been closely monitoring the young pandas and their mother with as little interaction as possible — temperatures may stop them from meeting the public this weekend too, but if that happens the adults will be out for public viewing, and there will be photographs of so-far the babies. For the complete article see the 09-20-2013 issue.
