Norcast Telecom is working to restore telephone service to businesses affected by outage

Posted: Friday, Apr 12th, 2013

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Engineers at Norcast Telecom have been working to restore telephone service to customers who have been affected by an equipment malfunction at the company’s San Luis Obispo facility. Several hundred business customers have had trouble getting a dial tone or have experienced drop-outs during calls. Internet service provided by Norcast has not been affected.

Norcast has had fully redundant back-up equipment in place, which should have prevented the outage, but in an against-all-odds scenario the back-up equipment failed also.

Engineers worked Wednesday night into Thursday morning on the problem and determined that a new piece of equipment would be necessary. After a thorough search, a suitable replacement piece was located in Northern California and Norcast CEO Michael Gayaldo immediately chartered an airplane to take him to pick up the equipment.

The equipment arrived in San Luis Obispo early this afternoon and its wiring and programming is underway now. Norcast employees are hopeful that the situation will be resolved by the end of the day. Norcast has provided regular updates on the status of the situation on the company’s web site and Facebook page.

Gayaldo says that Norcast will use all available resources to fix the current problem and minimize the risk of future incidents. “The reliability of our services is a top priority for us. We apologize to our affected customers and we want to reassure them that we will work to make this right.”
