Templeton death ruled an accident

TEMPLETON — The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of a man found dead from an apparent gunshot wound on March 6. The man was identified as 48-year-old Robert Stark Hickey of Templeton.

An autopsy was recently completed. The investigation has revealed that Hickey died from a single gunshot wound to the body. Hickey was home alone at the time of his death and was later discovered by a family member.

Although the accident was not witnessed, forensic evidence at the scene and autopsy results determined the incident was the result of an accidental discharge of a rifle by Hickey as he was placing the weapon into a ranch utility vehicle.
