ATASCADERO — Lucille M. Johnston, 89, died on March 5, 2013.
Now she walks with her lord. Lucille was born April 27, 1923, in Primghar, Iowa. As a young child, her family moved to California to the Los Angeles area.
At 14 years old, she joined the order of Saint Joseph and became a nun. During this time, she attended St. Mary’s and was trained to be a teacher. At the age of 23, she left the convent and went back to school and trained to be a nurse. She never married, but cared for many people over the years. She moved to Atascadero in 1974.
During her nursing career she worked at St John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stockton, Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton and Danish Convalescent Home in Atascadero.
She is survived by her sister, Patricia Jensen (Harold) of Atascadero; her brother, Thomas Johnston of Redding, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held on Monday, March 11 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Chapel of the Roses. Mass will be celebrated at Santa Margarita Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 12 at 10 a.m. Internment will be at the Atascadero District Cemetery.For the complete article see the 03-08-2013 issue.
