BAKERSFIELD — JoAnne Dorothea (Dodge) Sheldon, 81, of Bakersfield died on Dec. 28, 2012.
She was born in Fargo, N.D., on June 16, 1931. JoAnne moved from Fargo to Atascadero at age 10. In 1951, she met her future husband, Paul, in Templeton, where she worked as a bank teller, and where Paul worked as a teacher. One day, at her counter at the bank, he awkwardly asked her: “What do people do for fun around here?” They married in August 1952, and shared almost 54 years together. Paul predeceased her in March 2006.
JoAnne worked as a bookkeeper at Ming and “H” Drugs for more than 40 years. Her family is greatly indebted to Frank Fornasero, who was the epitome of a considerate and generous employer.
JoAnne was an avid golfer and spent many years enjoying recreational tennis. Much of her time and energy was unselfishly devoted to all of her grandkids, whom she adored.
JoAnne was the consummate wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be remembered dearly by those she leaves behind, who are her children, Paul “Bunky” ( Nesi); Joel (Pam); Susan Lonsinger (Dave); Greg (Melissa); and her grandchildren: Drew, Derek, Taylor; Scott, Sarah, Robbie, Katie; Amy, Melissa, Megan, Hayley (deceased); Riley, Brett, Samantha; and four great-grandchildren.
JoAnne’s family would like to thank the staff of The Park for the compassionate care they provided for her over the last few years.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 4500 Buena Vista Road in Bakersfield. Because JoAnne had a huge heart for kids, she became a trained volunteer for Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children, so, in lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be mailed to CASA, 2000 24th St., Ste. 130, Bakersfield, CA 93301.For the complete article see the 01-09-2013 issue.
