SAN LUIS OBISPO — William “Bill” Wayburn Miller, 77, of San Luis Obispo died peacefully, but unexpectedly, on Nov. 16, 2012.
Bill was born in August 1935 in Tulsa, Okla. He moved to San Luis Obispo at the age of 10, having first attended Emerson Elementary School and then San Luis Obispo Junior High School.
Starting in 1951, Bill began attending San Luis Obispo Senior High School, where he received varsity letters each year in football, baseball, basketball and track. He played on the 1952 CIF championship basketball team and the 1953 county championship baseball team. In 1953, Bill played on the High School All American football team, representing the West in Alabama.
During high school, Bill dated Billie Morris, whom he later married.
Bill played for the San Luis Obispo Blues baseball team periodically for several years after high school, until the demands of his growing family became paramount. It was also after high school that Bill joined the United States Army Reserves and served for several years.
He was preceded in death by his mother and grandson.
Bill is survived by his wife, Billie Morris Miller; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A service will be held on Monday, Nov. 26 at 11 a.m. at Reis Family Mortuary, 991 Nipomo St., San Luis Obispo, with a reception to follow at the American Legion Hall, 1661 Mill St.
