MARTINEZ — Elmer Defreese, 86, died on Nov. 14, 2012, at a care facility in Martinez.
Elmer was born in Atascadero in January 1926. His oldest daughter, along with the youngest daughter, would visit him often bringing him milkshakes, nuts, candy, strawberrys and flowers, which he greatly loved. Each visit was very special to him. He also enjoyed visiting with a minister that played the guitar, sang and was very kind to him.
Elmer worked for 35 years for Texaco, Inc. He started as a roustabout and soon became a pumper and then became a mechanic. He was very dedicated to his work and they greatly appreciated him and honored him. In his off time he raised steers, a couple of cows, pigs, goats and grew beautiful fields of green barley for feed. He was always a very good provider and hard worker. He was teasingly called “The Mayor” of San Miguel.
He is preceded in death by his son.
Elmer is survived by wife, Jessie of 50 years; three precious daughters, Denise, Anita and Deidra; grand-children; his sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at San Miguel District Cemetery on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 11 a.m.
Services are under the direction of Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home.
