ATASCADERO ó Ellen M. Baer of Atascadero died on Oct. 2, 2012, in the company of family.
Ellen was born in the state of New York in 1919.
Ellen spent her long life taking care of other people. With her husband, Milton Baer, who died in 2009, she helped to raise eight children and their children, keeping a home for all, including baking homemade bread for most of her life.
As librarian at Lewis Avenue School in Atascadero for more than 10 years, Ellen enjoyed matching young readers with books they would love, rarely needing to consult the catalogue, but instead walking with a patron straight to the exact location of the book on the shelf.Ellen was active in St. Williamís parish for all of the 63 years that she lived in Atascadero. After retirement, she served on the school board, volunteered with Atascadero Loaves & Fishes, Senior Nutrition, and El Camino Homeless Organization, and supported countless charities and organizations working for social justice and environmental sustainability.
Ellen is survived by two sisters, Julia Goelz and Lisa Lewis; a brother, Bill Hurley, and numerous nieces and nephews; and eight children, Peggy Rolison, Martha Marchand, Alan Baer, Art Baer, Larry Baer, Celia Bewley, Winnie Baer, and Patty French and their families.
There will be a funeral mass at St. Williamís Catholic Church in Atascadero on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m.For the complete article see the 10-05-2012 issue.
