Posted: Monday, Feb 11th, 2013

MESA, Ariz. — Terry Allen Mayhew, 59, of Mesa, Ariz., died on Sept. 19, 2012, after a long battle with multiple scoliosis.

His family arrived in Atascadero from Michigan in 1961. As a child, Terry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and anything that allowed him to be outside.

He played baseball and football in high school. After high school, Terry enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany. He received an honorable discharge. When he returned home, he began to drive trucks. He drove for local companies until he was hired to drive long haul across the country. He loved the freedom of the open road and the sights he saw.

He loved racing and working on autos. He also enjoyed watching his nephew, David, race in the NASCAR series.

In 1997, Terry met the love of his life, Jolene. In 2000, they exchanged vows and moved to Mesa, Ariz.

Terry was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Mayhew.

Terry is survived by his wife, Jolene, of Arizona; mother, Marlow Mayhew, of Atascadero; step-daughter, Candy, of Atascadero; brothers, Gary, Kenneth and David and his wife, Louise, all of Atascadero; and three nieces and four nephews.

A day of remembrance will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. at his mother’s home at 7100 Cristobal Ave. in Atascadero. Those whose lives were touched by Terry are welcome and encouraged to stop by.
