LOMPOC — Ruby E. Gorman, a long time resident of Atascadero, died on July 8, 2012, at the Lompoc Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Ruby’s husband, Bud J. Gorman passed away in 1997. As her dementia progressed her neighbors stepped in to provide the assistance Ruby needed to stay in her home as long as possible
Ruby led a colorful life and was active in the Atascadero community with many interests including sewing, doll collecting and garage sales. She was a jack-of-all-trades.
Ruby is survived by her brother, Robert Zerbe of Lusk, Wyo.; half-sister, Gloria Marhefka of Highland; half-sister, Bonnie Mooney of St. Albans, W.V.; half-sister, Nellie Harper of Charleston, W.V., and half-brother Artmas Miller of Phoenix City, Ala.
Gloria requested that this be included: “My mother was a single mom and nurse working 16-hour shifts. My sister Ruby raised and cared for me in every way during my formative years. On Sundays we had a ritual of going to church and seeing a movie and ending the day with a chocolate sundae, which for years I thought was only enjoyed on Sundays.”
For all of us that were part of her life, we will miss our loving, sassy Ruby. For the complete article see the 09-26-2012 issue.
