Grace Hankins

With her family by her side, Grace “Virginia” Hankins, 92, of Atascadero passed away July 8, 2010.

She was born in July 1918 in Bakersfield to Herbert and Estella Hath. She attended school in Bakersfield and graduated from Kern County Union High School in 1936.

In 1938 she married Obie Hankins. Together they raised three children while working hard at their family farming business. She and Obie made many lifelong friends and enjoyed traveling with their friends to many fishing destinations.

After Obie’s death in 1980, she traveled around the world with her family. While she enjoyed traveling, her most treasured place was home with her family. She was known by many names, such as Virginia, Mom, Mommoo and Gina.

Virginia is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Tami Hankins of Wasco; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Cindy Hankins of Cayucos; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Tim and Teresa Hallmark of Atascadero; grandson, Brent Hankins of Monterey; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Brad and Summer Hankins of Bakersfield; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Kip and Caroline Hankins of Santa Clarita; grandson, Trent Hankins of Morro Bay; grandson, Michael Logan of New York City; and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Lindsay, Van, and Thad.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Obie; her daughter, Carolyn; her brother, Elmo; and sisters, Thelma and Helen.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, July 16 at 10 a.m., at the Hillcrest Memorial Park located at 9101 Kern Canyon Road in Bakersfield.

The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to Ingleside Assisted Living of Atascadero, Hospice Partners of the Central Coast and Jackie Nickerson of Templeton.

Your love, care and companionship for Virginia will live on in our memories.
