Many state employees may see a temporary reduction to the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour — the state minimum wage is $8 per hour.
The temporary reduction is due to the state’s not having an approved budget. The decrease in pay would be retroactive to July 1.
According to the California State Department of Personnel Administration website, www.dpa.ca.gov, the reduction is due to the California Supreme Court decision in 2003 — White v. Davis — which calls for the reduction of pay for state workers in the absence of an approved budget.
