Charles Paddock Zoo hosts Zoo Boo on Oct. 29

Posted: Thursday, Oct 27th, 2011

Heather Young/Atascadero News // Lucy Hope, 1, of Atascadero attends last year’s Zoo Boo at Charles Paddock Zoo as a pumpkin.

The residents of Charles Paddock Zoo will play hosts to hundreds of local children for the zoo’s 18th annual Zoo Boo on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

The yearly event includes games, safe trick or treating, viewing the exhibits and more. Zoo Director Alan Baker said some of the animals will receive carved pumpkins filled with special treats during the event if there are enough pumpkins.

“I love all the costumes and the tiger,” Tabitha House of Morro Bay said at the 2010 event.

Last year’s Zoo Boo brought in more than 1,000 people to its one-day event Baker said.

“It’s a great place for my kids to be in a safe environment,” said Carey Gelos of Paso, who has attended many years in a row.

Two years ago, the zoo introduced its vegetable decorating contest, which will be held this year as well.

The contest will be divided into different age categories. Entries can be carved or decorated vegetables.

The cost to attend is $8 per person, $7 for zoo society members and those 2 and under are free.
