TEMPLETON — The last day in April was one of celebration at Templeton High School, as senior Spencer Martinelli signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Cal Lutheran University.
The soon-to-be-graduated tight end rounded out a long recruiting process by putting pen to paper and committing to play his college ball for the Kingsmen.
“I’m just so glad I got the opportunity to play,” said Spencer moments after the oath was made official. “I can’t wait to go on.”
A large crowd collected for his signing at THS on Wednesday, with friends, family, coaches and staff members watching as he grabbed the black CLU cap off the table.
Alongside the senior were his parents — Deanne and Chris — as well as his longtime coach John Spells.
“For Spencer, this is a dream,” said Chris, who sat on his son’s left side as he signed. “This was his goal when he was in the fifth grade. I think it’s great, and we’re very proud of him.”
