Creig P. Sherburne/Atascadero News • A freshly resurfaced track awaits racers.

ATASCADERO — The Atascadero All-Comers Meets will begin their 12th year starting on Wednesday.

This week’s event will be the first to take place on the newly resurfaced track at Atascadero High School. The finish date for the resurfacing was supposed to be Wednesday, with the track needing more time after that to cure, but it got done early enough for All-Comers to not have to be delayed until July 18 as was previously thought.

The meet will start with the invitational discus event at 3:30 p.m. The regular events will start at 5 p.m., with the discus opening for the high school and open divisions, and the high jump being set at 4 feet. The pole vault pit opens at 5:30 p.m., and the high school shot put and long jump divisions start at 6 p.m.

The first track event starts at 6:30 p.m. with the 3,000-meter run.

From there, track events will be the hurdles, 4x100 relays, 400-meter run, the 1,500-meter run, the “Football 40,” the kids’ mini hurdles, the 100, 800 and 200.

There will also be kids’ shot put, long jump and high jump events at 6:30 p.m., as well as the turbo javelin at 7:30 p.m.

The meet is scheduled to run on Wednesday nights through Aug. 8. One participation fee ($5 for adults, $3 for high-schoolers, $2 for youths) is good for unlimited events. Watching from the stands is free.
