Eagles defend home court against Greyhounds

TEMPLETON -- The first real test for the new Atascadero and Templeton high school girls varsity volleyball teams came on Tuesday, when they faced each other in Templeton, and it was the Eagles that earned their first quality-win of the season. Matthew Shuck leads men in Best Buddies Challenge

SAN SIMEON -- Local runner Matthew Shuck tackled the 2014 Best Buddies Challenge at Hearst Castle on Saturday, running in the 5K portion of the event alongside Olympic legend Carl Lewis. Shuck was the overall male winner in the 5K.
The event is an annual fundraiser to earn money for Best Buddies, a nonprofit dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement

Greyounds tennis girls top Templeton

ATASCADERO -- It was a week of North County heat for the Atascadero High School tennis team, hosting the Templeton Eagles on Tuesday, then traveling to Paso Robles on Thursday. The Greyhounds began the week off with a definitive win, 13-5, against the visiting Eagles, with AHS freshman Nicoline Breytenbach swept three singles sets to lead Atascadero to the win.

OXNARD -- The rivalry between Atascadero and Paso Robles athletics produced its latest result over 150 miles away from the common ground of the North County on Saturday afternoon.
