Posted: Tuesday, Dec 31st, 2013

Luke Phillips/Atascadero News The reopening of Atascadero’s historic Rotunda Building and the city’s centennial are two of the biggest news stories of the year. At left, more than 100 members of the community gathered for the Rotunda Building’s ribbon cutting ceremony in August.

The centennial was celebrated through numerous events, such as the reopening of our historic Rotunda Building 10 years after it was damaged beyond habitability in the 2003 San Simeon earthquake. Its fountains were rebuilt and statues, The Wrestling Bacchantes, returned to nearby Sunken Gardens.

We saw a new city manager take the reins, Rachelle Rickard who was central in seeing through the Rotunda rehabilitation project in her previous city job as administrative services director.
