Chef Ron Simon of Maci’s Deli & Drinkery is bringing a bounty of savory home-style Creole cooking to Atascadero. Gumbo, Jambalaya and dirty rice are all on the restaurant’s newly-revamped menu, which debuted late July.
Simon, a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, said he feels at home in the close-knit community of Atascadero. It’s safe to say people are feeling comfortable with him, too. He’s even gets regular requests from die-hard customers demanding his distinct brand of Southern-style eats.
“On Wednesdays, I know there’s a lady coming in at noon and she’s going to want her beans and fried chicken,” said Simon with a chuckle. “The nine-to-fivers come in as well, and they love that they can get a hot meal.
