It seems like every new movie today is either a remake or a sequel. Some of those remakes can defy reason, at least on paper. 2010’s remake of “True Grit” is a perfect example of this. No one thought the 1969 John Wayne classic needed a fresh coat of paint. But as it turns out, Joel and Ethan Coen beat the odds and created a fantastic movie.
Peter Bogdanovich’s 1973 “Paper Moon” could stand up to the remake test — if Hollywood remade movies about character and story and not just explosions.
