Calif. Valley shooting kills one

CALIFORNIA VALLEY — A shooting in California Valley left one man dead and resulted in the arrest of a local woman on a homicide charge.

Gina Loret Mayborn, 55, of California Valley was arrested and booked at San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of the shooting death of Joseph King Cochran, 49.

SLO County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call regarding a shooting at 7:50 p.m. on July 8. According to a release from the Sheriff’s Department, deputies arrived on the scene, near Cucamonga Trail and Dorris Road, to find Cochran dead from a single gunshot wound.

According to the release, there had been a dispute between Cochran and the suspect, Mayborn. Cochran lived in a trailer on or next to the same property where Mayborn lived.

Paramedics from Cal Fire station 42 in California Valley responded to the scene and attempted aid to the victim, but he was determined to be dead at the scene.

Mayborn was arrested and booked on a homicide charge.
