Community Unity: Harrington Home Furniture

ATASCADERO — There’s a good reason that Harrington Home Furniture has been around as long as it has: its owner, Floyd Harrington, has found the sweet spot between quality and price in styles his customers like.

Or, put another way, he found that Atascadero customers value value.

“We’re trying to do the research for the customer. If something’s popular, 100 places will make it in varying quality,” Harrington said. “But most customers don’t want fake wood.”

Harrington’s shop is at the north end of Atascadero in a great big warehouse that doubles as a showroom. There are a lot of advantages to that setup, he said. First, since there isn’t another warehouse somewhere, what you see is what he’s got. It’s all just out there, on the floor. An effort is made to make things look nice, but the nature of the warehouse beast is that it’s a warehouse full of furniture. It can only look so good.

“If it looks good here, it’ll look even better in your home,” he said.

The other advantage of storing everything in the showroom/warehouse is that customers in need of a bit of furniture get instant gratification.

“If you see something you like, take it,” Harrington said.
