Gearhart is five years behind on $500K in taxes

ATASCADERO — Furthering the woes of former Atascadero developer Kelly Gearhart, he and several of his subsidiary companies are more than five years delinquent on more than $500,000 in property taxes.

These properties, if not redeemed by June 29 by payment or by making payment arrangements, can be sold on or after July 1.

Gearhart and subsidiaries Atascadero Homeowners, LLC, Vine Street Homes, LLC, Morro Road Homes, LLC, Casa Del Sol, LLC, and Atascadero All Night RV Park, LLC, are listed among hundreds of names that went delinquent on their taxes in 2007. Under the law, the county tax collector can sell the properties if the taxes are in default for five years.

The public notice was published Wednesday by San Luis Obispo County Tax Collector Frank Freitas.

In it, a total of 24 properties listed as owned by Gearhart, by Gearhart and wife Tamara, or by one of his subsidiaries add up to $537,986.90 owed, including fees and penalties.

Among these, there are 11 properties in North Ferrocarril Road, totaling $206,934.13, and another four properties in Atascadero totaling an additional $170,926.69.

There are another nine properties in the Shandon/Carrizo area in the eastern part of the county. The amount owed on those properties totals $160,126.08.

According to the notice, once subject to the power to sell on July 1 at 12:01 a.m., the tax collector can sell the property at public auction or otherwise convey it to new ownership.

It is possible to save the properties from sale after July 1, but only if they’re not already sold, and only by paying the full amount.
