Julius Achon is a world champion runner from Uganda now living in Oregon, but he has not forgotten those suffering from poverty in his home country; he brought his message of hope-through-hard-work to the Central Coast recently when he spoke at Rotary Club’s Symposium to Eliminate Poverty Sustainably.
He followed that Santa Maria symposium with a visit to Atascadero where he tirelessly spoke to individuals and groups about the need for medical care in his home village.
“The way I feel about it — to look back at where I come from — I see that my village could have developed, but there was no one to do that,” Achon said. “There was no one to make development happen, so I will be that person.”
