Girl falls off fair ride

Investigators continued to examine a ride named the Super Himalaja at the California Mid-State Fair this week after a 9-year-old girl was injured when she fell out of the ride on Tuesday.

The girl, whose identity was not being released because she is a minor, suffered minor injuries including scrapes and bruises.

According to Tommy Davis, who operates Davis Enterprises, the owner of the Super Himalaja, the girl met the requirements of proper height to ride the Super Himalaja. He said that two operators noticed that she was not sitting upright and when they signaled to her twice, she did not sit upright. When the ride came around a third time the operator was signaled to turn the ride off. Before the ride turned off, she slid out of the ride. Emergency responders then were called to the scene, and the girl was transported to a local hospital and was undergoing observation as of press time, according to Davis. He said that there were three girls riding in the unit at the time of the accident and that they had also ridden it once before and gotten back in line for a second ride.

Davis said on Wednesday that the state had completed the majority of the investigation on the ride minus interviewing witnesses.

The ride remained shut down as of press time. Davis said that he hoped to re-open the ride and said it had been in operation for an estimated 30 years.
