Pirates gather for first-ever Pillaging Buccaneers Pirate Festival

Dozens of pirates from all over Southern California converged on Atascadero this past weekend for the first-ever Pillaging Buccaneers Pirate Festival at the Viking Event Center.
Though attendance was sparse at the inaugural event, organizer Kurt Ourston said that he's already working to make next year's event bigger and better, including plans to build a large pirate ship structure.

Grenda Ernst named 2016 Colony Days Grand Marshal

ATASCADERO -- Longtime Atascadero Library advocate Grenda Ernst has been named the Grand Marshal of the 2016 Colony Days Parade.
Ernst said that she was completely astounded when she got the news that she'd been named Grand Marshal.
"I was just amazingly surprised," she said.
Ernst moved to Atascadero with her husband Bill in 1972 from Baywood
