Another AHS comeback falls short
Posted: Thursday, Jan 22nd, 2009

Photo by Aaron Crutchfield - Atascadero’s Markita Hinton has a shot blocked during the Greyhounds’ 51-50 loss to San Luis Obispo on Wednesday.
The final shot with two seconds left to go missed the mark, and another comeback attempt by the Atascadero High School girls basketball team fell just short, with the Greyhounds losing 51-50 to San Luis Obispo on Wednesday.

“It was a good game between two teams that are very similar and very equal,” said Atascadero coach Jim Stecher. “We’ve just got to talk a little better and work a little harder, that’s all. We played hard; we didn’t play to lose.”

After being outscored 17-10 in the first quarter, Atascadero outscored the Tigers in the other three quarters and took a 50-49 lead with 1:58 remaining when Markita Hinton scored a basket. But the Tigers got the winning points with 57 seconds left, and despite several valiant tries, the Hounds couldn’t get those final points.

Markita Hinton’s 3-point shot from the top of the key missed, and after the Hounds got a steal, the Tigers forced a jump ball situation and got the ball back. After Atascadero then got a steal with 10 second left, a long ball that was either a pass or a very long 3-point shot by Casey Nero ended up in the hands of Raven Robinson-Taylor, whose shot with a couple of seconds left just missed.
