Menderu, a 1-and-a-half-year-old male Malayan tiger, arrived at the Charles Paddock Zoo Wednesday and will be presented to the public Saturday, Aug. 15 and Sunday, Aug. 16 as a part of Tiger-Welcome Weekend, after his 30-day quarantine is complete.
Alan Baker, Charles Paddock Zoo director, said the animal was transported from the San Diego Zoo without any problems and that he expects quarantine to be merely a formality, since Menderu has been at only the San Diego Zoo and has had no health problems.
“It went really smoothly,” he said. “We’re really happy. He’s a good-looking animal.”
